Hoffentlich.

Naval warfare turned on its head

Those brown merchant vessels are apparently doing great. The sailors or rather gunmen there are claiming to be shooting down warplanes like pigeons. They have a new instrument, a big block of assembled ironmongery. They're saying this reduces the survival rate of planes to just three percent. That would be outstanding. But how do they know that their instrument isn't lying?

I'm now standing at the rail looking out on the ocean. I see a plane emerging from the waves, flying out of the water in an elegant curve, plunging back in like a dolphin. - Those seem to be underwater planes.

Then a plane is hit in the act of entering the sea: Through the gunman's eyes I see him aiming at the plane's tail, triggering a missile which then hits the exact spot he was aiming at. - But that can't be true! A plane would be moving in the meantime, not be frozen in time.

Is all this just propaganda?

Now I observe the marksman aiming at a soldier out there who is running away over the tail segment of a sinking plane. He's clearly just fleeing, aiming to plunge into the sea to save himself. But the gunman wants to hit him anyway.

Does defending the girl make any sense?

There are two of us, guy and girl. The other party of castaways in these dark woodlands consists of five men. They have a definitely 'different' set of morals: they want to capture us and to use the girl; as their whore. I want to kill them.

Meanwhile guy and girl have been taking cover in a field of high dry grass, some crooked tree skeletons in their back. The others, having just cleared a crescent of ruinous walls, are approaching uphill. "Stay low!", the guy hisses at the girl. But a big black man among the enemy has already seen them. He's very scary, incredibly tall. He's a basket ball player, attacking just now, throwing a black rubber ball with the force of a cannon. First time he misses fortunately, the thing's now ricocheting, shooting diagonally over the field. The black man gets it back and keeps throwing it at the hunted pair but at one point the guy manages to grasp it, throwing it back with some force. He is actually quite a fighter, not as strong as the black giant obviously, but more than a match for anyone else. Though he doesn't hit anyone either.

I'm getting very worried as the evil men advancing in a crescent have now come more than halfway across the field while guy and girl are still staying put. What is the guy thinking? Frankly, I'm afraid. I trust him but can't imagine how he can still get them away.

They have got caught.

A lorry is standing in a field of long grass near the edge of a wood. The girl has been put inside the driver's cab with one of the men. She is about to be raped. But the guy is there too. Now he's attacking the man. In an incredible fury I'm attacking the man, killing him. I think.

I'm standing outside, a few metres from the lorry. Another of the men approaches from the wood. Mistaking me for a friend he adresses me idly. He's obviously waiting his turn, thinking that the girl is still in the cab with his accomplice. He refers to her as "girlfriend of the week". That's her fate in his view: being 'girlfriend of the week' to each of them in turn. Rage overpowering me I hit him over the head with a piece of cardboard, and keep hitting him over and over again. He's now crouching beneath me, defenceless for the moment but still not out, my weapon is too soft. But I keep hitting him over the head on and on until in the end he's lying motionless on the ground.

'Two down' I'm thinking.

More of the men have come. But one of them has even changed sides. The odds having improved so much we will now stand our ground. I'm expecting a showdown.

But the girl intervenes. I know what she's going to say: She will softly 'understand' the enemy by putting herself in their shoes. She starts by telling them, that she doesn't want to "loose what standing I have with you people." And next she'll probably argue that raping her is a natural thing.

The second crossing

I'm alone in the car, in the driver's seat, somehow curled up or squatting and urinating there. That makes it impossible to control the car while it is rolling towards a railway crossing.

By the time I get there the vehicle's momentum is almost used up. The car is slowly rolling past the red & white gate that bars the left side of the crossing but clearly will not make it to the other side. I don't see a train coming but the gate has obviously been lowered for that very reason. Danger. But I have a bright idea: to start the engine. Yes, this seems very smart. Turning the key indeed starts the engine, giving the car a slight jolt, then it moves all the way across and onwards at a slow but steady pace.

Having thankfully cleared this fix I'm now rolling on a short stretch of road approaching a second crossing. It seems natural that this should be there and the car is moving inexorably towards it as the engine is now running. I need to stop it obviously, I must reach the brake but my legs are still somehow folded on the seat, I need to get them down there, find the brake pedal fast!

Finally managing to reach out with my foot I feel for the pedal but can't get there. I know where it is but control over my limb is so poor that I can't make it go there: left. ''Further to the left!', I'm inwardly shouting, "Further to the left, further to the left!'

Now I see the train coming. It's a short one, cute, with a cuddly steam engine. Wether I'll survive this encounter is now touch and go. Still I'm not as utterly upset as would be normal. Knowing that the train will probably kill me I maintain an eerie calm, seem to be taking it philosophically.

Worries of a squatter

I've come to a large rundown building or rather a complex of buildings that consists of at least three separate parts, each containing a large number of chambers. They are like villages made up of rooms, separated by space, connected by lines that symbolze paths. I see the whole thing in outline from above, like an architectural drawing.

I've come here again, without the owner's permission. I see his small stocky figure, wandering around his empty and dilapidated empire. He is a contemptible bad guy.

There are so many rooms, I'll just pick one at random, the chance of being found is minusule. The owner lives in one of the other parts anyway. - Or does he? This was true last time. ButI'm not in the same part now that I was in last time. I'm not so sure that I'm still safe. But I'm telling myself that even this part by itself is large enough to make my risk small.

I have chosen a room. It has a high ceiling, some dim light from bulbs, the windows are shuttered. A lot of rather rundown furniture is standing around the walls. A large slimnosed dog lying in the middle of the room has got up at once, coming at me. Reacting fast I get down on my knees ending up nose to nose with the dog. Just in time, this gesture of mine has pacified him, now he's quite friendly.

Going back to the door, I lock it from the inside with a large key. Then, returning to the middle of the room I realize that there are two more doors permitting access from outside: one on the right, leading to the main hall, the other in front of me opening on a smaller darker corridor. That one doesn't have a key.

Obviously I must block access if I want to feel safe. The door opens towards the inside, so should be blocked from the inside. There is a large frayed box standing on the floor just to the left of it. It looks heavy, I'll push it in front of the door. But enough force applied from outside will still force the entrance.

Clockfaces at the airport. The game

I'm standing at a T-junction of aisles. There is a large information counter on the opposite corner, an official sitting behind it. The counter itself is black, very deep, with an irregular wavy surface, there is a monitor buildt into it.

My flight will leave at 12.55. I think I have more than an hour until takeoff. But I'm not sure, what time is it now? I'm uneasy, afraid of missing my flight. What time is it exactly?

Loooking for clocks I see a big round one directly above the counter. It seems to confirm what I thought but I feel uncertain wether I'm reading it correctly. Turning around I see another similar clock high up in the opposite wall. Looking at the ceiling I see still another one above. Those clocks are big enough, reading them shoudn't be hard. But their features are thin and uncertain, their white faces covered with lots of such thin blurry dashes, that I can never be sure. Maybe it's my vision that's blurred but I would really wish for a clock with bolder features. Still they all seem to confirm that I have about 90 minutes until departure. Maybe I should just believe it.

So, a bit relieved after all, I start strolling down one of the halls. It's getting darker as I walk along until I reach the entrance to a large circular space, also dark and empty. But there is an opening in the opposite wall, signs of life, light, entertainment emanating there. Drawn across, stepping inside this entrance, I find a large hall full of people sitting in rows that ascend towards the left. As I'm entering from the side walking towards the right end of first row I see three of my schoolmates occupying the proximate seats. They are rather ugly guys.

And now I realize that not only they but all these people are playing the game: the very game we've been fanatically playing all the time these last days. It's a new game. Alone in the airport I've been feeling rather low. But as I see them playing I remember the fun. Although it feels a bit off I decide to have more fun with them now.

Having walked up to the others I hear myself giggling, obscenely loud, drawing attention to myself. I sit down on the one empty chair at the end of the row, immediately feeling uncomfortable about being at the periphery. Then I see my mother sitting just beyond the three guys even as she's bending forward: her large head, her ponytail. Clearly she's playing the game with them, having fun with them.

Seeing her here is rather a letdown. But now I've done it, I've joined them.
