A double murder is not enough

In a large empty shabby room a small pistol and about ten slender brass-colored magazines of bullets are lying on the dirty bedclothes of a large sagging bed with a canopy. The clips are variously discolored with age.

I know that a whole posse of security people have entered the otherwise empty building. They want to arrest me. In view of the pistol and magazines I also know that I've in some way lived through this experience already and that I'm supposed to kill them all.

I now hear voices in the corridor, a female one just outside. It's as though I could see part of her through the white door, one calf protruding from under the rim of a trenchcoat and I'm thinking: why not shoot through the door? But the pistol is small and I'm unsure whether a bullet can penetrate the thick wood and still emerge with force enough to kill. Also I don't know whether they even know that I'm in this room. If they don't, then killing one of them would alert everyone to my position. So I wait - until the noises outside convince me that they really want to enter. Then, pointing the pistol, I pull the trigger. But nothing happens, not even a click.

The door opens, two very large men in coats are coming in. Pointing the gun first at one then at the other I pull the trigger a couple of times. But the thing doesn't shoot.

They on the other hand are not even bothering to disarm me. Covering the exit with their huge bodies they exchange some remarks concerning the operation.

Meanwhile I'm thinking: Assuming the magazine to be alt fault I could try to kill them with something else, thus winning time, then change the clip and wait for the others. Immediately I grab some implement from the floor, stab the man in front of me and - fail. His coat is much too thick and my tool is too blunt to do anything with it.

But again they don't even bother to restrain me and still standing before the man whom I just attacked I now see something else lying between us to the right of his feet: a mounted-razor tool. Now that - although the bracket covers most of the blade - should be sharp. Picking it up by the handle I reach up, going for the man's throat. My first strike seems bloodless but -  after a long split second of uncertainty - red marks a deep slit. Having cut only the left half of his throat I move quickly and while he's already sagging with an encircling flourish of the knife, make sure that he will stay dead. Meanwhile the other one hasn't moved, I'm at him already, but again only reach the left half of his throat. That done a second's delay marks my belated wondering why he didn't even attempt any defense. - Again I strike. The second giant crushes to the floor.

Alone with two corpses I'm safe for now and almost - for I'd like to be rid of the bloody mess - give in to an impulse to drag them outside. But that would clearly be stupid, announcing my whereabouts to anyone happening to look along the corridor. So I walk around the bodies to just shut the two-winged door. Closing the wings I realize they are too narrow: one third of the doorway still remains open. Now investigating I find that the left wing is made of two parts, one folded behind the other. Swinging it out I succeed in completely shutting the door.

Bauernopfer

Am Bahnhof. Ziemlich viele Sachen, Kleidung, liegen in meinem Fahrradkorb. Fremde quatschen mich an.

Progress for the dispossessed

A matronly lady is telling me how the victims of predators fared in the old days: "They would have suffered fifty times over", she says. Because, as they were eaten and their flesh severed into bits by the predator's teeth their bodies were made in such a way that they had to be chewed fifty times over until they were dead. While nowadays, she says, two chewing movements are sufficient to kill. She adds that "it helps those and it helps the dispossessed", meaning that it is now both easier on the predators - having to chew less - and on the victims - those dispossessed of their bodies. Picturing the inside of an oral cavity with terrible teeth I'm trying to imagine the tearing of flesh and what it must have meant to endure this fifty times over. I can't even go there.

But I now remember my grandfather's ruling that every bite needed to be chewed fifty times which morsel of wisdom was dutifully repeated by the whole family.

Breaking the chain

Imprisoned somewhere in Asia I'm chained up on the side of a dismal underground corridor together with two or three others in a human cluster our hands chained to a steel strut above our heads. All of our wrists are somehow held by a short chain made up of some rather large irregular links which I see hanging down before a massive vertical beam.

One of my fellow prisoners, a woman, proposes a coordinated see-saw movement to eventually break that chain. We start moving up and down making quite a din and I'm wondering why the guards don't stop us. Probably they think that our exertions are futile.

Soon I see lots of minuscule shiny scratches on at least one of the links showing that our efforts in fact have an effect. However, if we go on chipping away just tiny splinters this will take us a really long time. Still I'm hoping for material fatigue to set in and break the chain much sooner.

The lowest link is made of some silvery metal, flexible, like a dented loop of thick wire. After we've been continually rocking for about an hour it breaks. Which doesn't free us. So we continue. Then I observe that the next one up - wich is even bigger, thicker, almost black - lead I'm thinking - is now starting to deform.

I want to exploit this.

Pizza with a hole

Working behind a counter I seem to have been engaged as cook for our all-male group. I am making pizza. The recipe for this kind of pizza involves specific preparation of a circular area more or less in the middle of it, somewhat larger than a large coin. While the rest of the dough disk is already covered in the kind of stuff that goes on pizza that central spot remains empty at first to be then rubbed, in fact massaged with a rather messy cheese liquid. In fact I don't want to be bothered with that part of the preparation, I want to let the eaters themselves rub it onto their otherwise finished meal. This is a deviation from the recipe and, yes, decreases the appeal but making all this grub I feel I'm already at the limit to what can be expected of me.

There's this monstrously big bulky stupid guy who's to receive his pizza now: an enormous red-and-yellow irregular bulging mess with a bald spot in the middle. Handing the thing over I tell him to prepare that himself. Coming away from my counter he's crossing the grey alley towards a shadowy wall beyond while rubbing his pizza so vigorously that he's rubbing right through making a hole and spilling the terrible oily cheese stuff all over the place including himself.

God, what a mess!

Darauf er: "Was?"

Love

I live with my girlfriend now, a young blonde with no recollectable face. God, I love her! I'm standing in the hall, naked, looking through the open bathroom door, observing her in profile; she, also naked, is standing before the wash basin. Suddenly I seem to see a lump on her back - is that a sick growth? I'm alarmed for a moment but then, as it moves, I'm relieved to be able to reassign the perceived tumour as the tip of her right ellbow; the arm is concealed by her body and the ellbow sticking out behind her back.

So all is well. Having her here is like a miracle: not to be alone any longer. I love her so much that it hurts. Looking at her I'm thinking: I am happy. - Is it true? - Yes, and I want to say it out loud, tell her: I am happy! - No. I stop myself. I can't lay my finger on why exactly but I'm somehow scared that this might drive her away.

Only a short while ago I was alone and depressed. It is an incredible difference, all that darkness and despair - gone! Not only gone but almost forgotten, unbelievable: it was real only a few days ago.

I don't remember how it felt when my mother came back, returning from one of her absences.

Looking down the corridor I now see her standing at the far end.  Walking towards her I take her in my arms. It is so good to feel her skin on mine. I love her so much!

Clad in plates

Close-packed all over my body I have red dinner plates glued to my skin. It's like an armour. A woman is with me, I'm standing by her side in front of a table. Prying off the plates one by one, piling them on the table top I'm suddenly afraid that she's friendly with me only because she wants to steal my red plates.
